Guayabo

Guayabo is a coffee liqueur made from 100% Arabica coffee beans originating from Costa Rica.

But what Guayabo really is? Guayabo is a national monument, archeological site located in the middle of Costa Rica. Precisely in the Central Conservation Area in the Cartago Province near the city of Turrialba.

It is persumed that this area was populated by around 10000 people in years between 1000 BCE and 1400 CE when the site was abandoned.

Until this day still noone knows where and why people disappeared from this area, so it remains a mystery.

The site was discovered in the 1800s and was first excavated in the year of 1882. In 1960s archeologists found out what the site consists of. There was the city's infrastructure, petroglyphs, tombs, and artifacts that were left behind.

The people of Guayabo are known to be well aware of good engineering. Archeologists revealed 43 stone foundations, three aqueducts, two major roadways, dozens of smaller paths, and some stone tombs. The main mound, which is the biggest and in the center of the site is connected with a paved road to the surrounding settlements. The longest is reaching as far as 9km.
